Cookie & Storage Policy

1. Who is responsible
This survey site is run by Maksim Tonyushkin, who is responsible for the information described here. Questions, requests, or complaints: tonyushkin@maksim.brussels.
2. Cookies
This site sets no cookies. Because the law covers any storage on your device, the technologies actually used are listed below.
3. What is stored in your browser
| Name | Type | Purpose | Kept for | When it appears |
|---|---|---|---|---|
qsortEditCode_<study> |
Session storage | Holds a study's edit code while the editor is open, so it does not have to sit in the address bar. Researchers only. | Until the browser tab is closed | Automatic (strictly necessary for editing) |
editCode_<study> |
Local storage | Remembers your own studies' edit codes so you do not retype them. Researchers only. | Until you clear it | Only if you tick “Remember edit codes on this device” |
firebaseLocalStorageDb |
IndexedDB | An empty database created by the Google Firebase library when a page loads. This site configures the library to keep sign-in state in memory only, so nothing is ever written into it and it stays empty. | Until you clear your browser data | Automatic (technical, stays empty) |
firebase-heartbeat-database |
IndexedDB | Written by the Google Firebase library when a page loads. It holds only the date and the library's own version string, which Google uses to count how often its software runs. It contains no identifier for you and cannot be used to recognise you. | Until you clear your browser data | Automatic (technical) |
Participants taking a questionnaire trigger only the two automatic technical entries, neither of which identifies anyone.
4. Your answers stay on your device
Everything you type or sort lives in your browser's memory while you work and disappears when you close the page. The only copies that outlive the page are files you create and keep:
- Exports — the PDF and spreadsheet files produced at the end are generated in your browser and downloaded straight to your device. They are never uploaded.
- Save file — “Save to file” turns your progress so far into a short piece of text that you download or copy somewhere safe. It is not sent anywhere; whoever holds the file can read the answers in it, so treat it like any personal document.
The study's questions and settings are fetched from my database; nothing about you is written to it.
5. Third parties
To load the page, your browser requests files from the services below. Any web request necessarily reveals your IP address and basic browser information to the server answering it. None of these services are used for analytics or advertising here.
| Service | Used for | Privacy information |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Hosting, Firestore, Storage) | Hosting this site and storing study questions/settings (researcher content, not participant answers). Google keeps server logs, including IP addresses, for security and operations. | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Cloudflare (cdnjs.cloudflare.com) | Delivering open-source libraries used to build your PDF and spreadsheet exports. | cloudflare.com/privacypolicy |
| jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net) | Delivering open-source libraries used to build your PDF export. | jsdelivr.com privacy policy |
| Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) | Two handwriting fonts used to draw a researcher's signature. Loaded on the study editor only, not on the participant questionnaire. | policies.google.com/privacy |
6. Why no consent banner?
Consent is legally required for storage that is not strictly necessary for a service you asked for. Everything this site stores automatically is either strictly necessary (the per-tab edit code) or an empty/technical artefact containing no personal data. Remembering edit codes only ever happens when you tick its checkbox, which is itself your explicit request. There is therefore nothing for a banner to ask about.
7. Your choices and rights
- You can remove everything this site has stored on your device, without asking anyone, by clearing site data for this domain in your browser settings (usually Privacy → Cookies and site data). Closing the tab already clears the session-storage entry.
- You control your save file and exports entirely.
- Because this site does not store participant answers or identities on any server, there is normally nothing I can look up, correct or erase about you. For anything concerning the data you hand to the researcher yourself (for example, an exported PDF you send them), contact them via their contact email which would be in the survey you take. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority, for example the one in Belgium is found here: https://www.dataprotectionauthority.be/citizen.
8. Changes
If what this site stores ever changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top always reflects the current version.
